USDA APHIS (United States Department of Agriculture, Animal Plant Health Inspection Service) and CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) have both done a tremendous amount of research into the detection, and management of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) which attacks ash trees. Synergy can provide the original green and purple prism traps that were designed and have been used to help monitor EAB populations.
Green prism traps are hung in the mid-upper part of the canopy on the south side of the tree. Green traps are baited with green leaf volatile lures (Z-3 hexenol) and attract more adult males.
Purple prism traps baited with tree bark volatile lures (manuka oil) are not as effective as the green and tend to attract adult female EAB.
